"It's really no big deal," he told me. "Technology has changed enough that nowadays, the throw on a good 10" subwoofer is going to be able to reproduce the kind of sound you were getting from that old 12" sub of yours."Well, I do like having some trunk space back. And the 12" was actually a bit more than what I really wanted out of the low end--I often found myself dialing it back a bit so my skull wouldn't ring. I like bass a LOT...but music also has mids and highs, too.And that's how I ended up with the excellent JL Audio 10" 3v3 2. The 12" was also a JL Audio product, so I knew from the start that even if I couldn't get the same depth, I'd still be getting really good sound.Bringing all the thump to my trunk that I could ever want, I've been unbelievably happy with how well it sounds. I've got pre-amped RCA connections going to a 500W JLAudio 5-channel amplifier, and in turn I have the amp's cutoff to the sub channel at 120Hz and the sensitivity dialed to just below half. With this kind of setting, I have yet to hear it distort at any volume, but I can definitely tell you this smaller sub packs just as much punch as its older, bigger cousin. I'm also pleased to report that I get less rattle from car parts and panels with it set this way.I realize some audiophiles are wondering why I might talk about bass having a limit--I realize there are many people for whom two or three 10" subwoofers might not be enough and if life were perfect they'd have a wall of 12"s behind their head. I'm not sensitive to loud music--not after 2 or 3 Ozzfests, countless concerts, and being at one club where I had to leave because when I stood at the wrong angle it knocked my heartbeat out of sync.The truth is I've become a bit of a golden-ear over the years. I like hearing the full range of sound, and even though that means mids and highs, I still also like it when I hear a good, solid kick from the lower end. I just like it even better when that kick sounds exactly like the music being fed through my system instead of just a generic 'whumping' sound. With a simple sealed Bass Bunker box, the JL 3v3 2 delivers.

This is an awesome 10" sub and I have a bridged Soundstream 800 watt 5 channel amp going to this sub. I built my own custom speaker box out of particule board and a compound miter saw. The bass sounds solid, the range is crossed over at 100 hertz frequency and I have to turn the bass down some keep from drowning out my 6.5" component speakers. The box that I built is tuned and has a slot port. One of the best sounding subs that I've ever owned. If you make your own box, make sure that you seal the inside corners of your box: I used a tube of silicone from home depot.

Great sub. Had 2 of these in a previous vehicle and wish i could have taken them out before the sale. Got a new car and bought a Kenwood 10" sub and it blew after about a month. Replaced it with one of these and it hits tighter and deeper bass. Well worth the money.
