Coleman makes great camping equipment. (period)
By caliboy
I agree (and I disagree) with the other reviews for the 2007 Limited Edition Coleman Lantern. Yes, the sticker with the number of the lantern printed on it (I have 2118/5000) is annoying and, mine too, was crooked, and I too, removed it - it looked cheap - it was cheap! It looks better removed. But the lantern itself is a quality Coleman product. I was worried that (as with their Catalytic ProCat Heater) Coleman might have gone too plastic (or too cheaply mass-produced) with a product made as late as 2007. I am happy to report that this is not the case. The top of the lantern is the same heavy, enameled aluminum that it has always been - in familiar Coleman green - well-made and very durable. The rounded globe is made in Germany and is really quite a nice vintage sort of detail. The upper most part of the pump mechanism IS (hard) plastic now - they used to be aluminum - but it appears to be much more durable than the former aluminum cap - so I am okay with it. I wanted a SINGLE MANTLE lantern - two mantle lanterns are simply too bright - the intensity of the light hurts my eyes and makes me squint - that's simply too bright - I am camping not repairing watches. This lantern will last the rest of my natural life and I will be happy to camp with it for years to come.

Good single mantle
By BigLew
This model is not new, it was developed as the 200 B lantern in the late '90's and produced for about 3 years. It was re-released in 2001 to celebrate Coleman's 100th year. In 2007 it was re-released again, as this limited edition, except Coleman had gone to a computerized model number system and this is model #3billion101 so I'll call it the 2007HE. Coleman also frequently sells this model in Japan as various special editions. It is basically a 286 with a 200 style globe and a replica style vent. The 286 is the single mantle version of the Coleman 288 which is a very good modern lantern. This 2007HE uses the 288 generator and valve system, because it only has one burner and mantle to light, it is just about as bright as the double mantle 288. Unlike the older 200's and 200 A's it has an adjustable light output,as modern lanterns do. Also like modern lanterns the tip cleaner is controlled in the valve knob, and the air tube and generator are in front of the mantle. A disadvantage of a single mantle is the shadow cast by the air tube and generator, so turn the lantern around so the valve faces the post or tree, from which it hangs, and that way the shadow won't be cast in to the area you want to illuminate.I agree with the other reviewers, that as for a shelf queen (for display only) this lantern is not special, but as a work horse and user it is a good bright lantern. Since only 2500 were made and many of those were bought by collectors as shelf queens, you will probably have the most interesting lantern in the campground. It looks better with an amber globe on it too.I was going to buy a 286 but b/c I was able to get one of these for less than the price of a 286 I got this instead.I do have 3 small complaints:1. The match holes are to small to install a spark igniter, (I did but removed it b/ç it just didn't fit well.)2. I wish it had been made a as a dual fuel model (even though I prefer to use Coleman fuel even in DF models unless the C-fuel is too expensive)3. The globe stabilizers in the vent don't seem to be all that sturdy. (But if they break they could probably be replaced easily.) ON older 200's the globes rattledIf you're thinking about this lantern and you can get a good price on it, buy it, otherwise, you could get two 286's', 288's or one of each, for the full price of this 2007HE.

OK...
By Michigan BADMO
I am a coleman lantern lover, but this one leaves me a bit underwhelmed. Very cheaply made and finished, and just cheesy when you look at the details. The sticker is very cheap. But if you peel it off, it's still a decent lantern, but not great....
