Great product except....
By Andrew Wilcox
I really like 3M -- I own at lot of their products. You see, I'm an engineer and I like well engineered products. And 3M's product names let you know that they take their work seriously: from "Precision Mousing Surface" to their "Perfect-It" auto-detailing products. So when I needed a monitor / laptop arm, I was thrilled to see that 3M make a product that could hold my 20 pound 30" monitor. But there's the problem: it actually can't hold a 20 pound monitor. Well, it can hold it, but the spring that allows you to adjust the tilt of the monitor absolutely will not support 20 pounds. In fact, I would be shocked if it could support 18 pounds. What happened to 3M's engineering prowess? Being an engineer myself, I'd like to think that someone in marketing decided to stretch the truth a bit. I would be very disappointed if the engineering team knew about this problem, of just never bothered to do any testing at the rated weight. That being said, I do like the laptop stand, which works very well. And I would have liked the monitor arm, if only it did what 3M claims.

Freaking Glorious!
By H. Singh
Disclaimer: this is my first monitor arm. When I ordered this thing, I had two fears: (1) that I didn't really think too hard about it fitting my desk (which I hadn't actually received yet); (2) that it'd just be a clunky mess.Well, for (1), it's wonderful. The base has a clamp, but it's bolted in. You can unbolt it and use another (provided) long bolt to go through a hole in your desk. It's rock solid. Surprising, because my stuff is *not* *light*. For reference, it's a crate & barrel "pheonix" table. Pretty wonderful. And (2), this thing is super flexible. I'm using a heavy thinkpad in a dock (w520), and it holds it all great. It's even got instructions for dealing with laptop docks specifically, and provides additional materials (velcro strips) just to deal with them. It has cable management built under the arms, and comes with a pair of zip ties. It also has some screw-on loops to further help manage cables. Now, if I wanted my dream dual-arm contraption, I'd only suggest the following:- A ball-bearing cuff in the middle joint of the arms. For heavy stuff, you have to use two hands (although with little effort) to move stuff about.- A little more space under the arms for cable management. My DVI cable's pretty thick, and doesn't really fit in there.

Needed more desk space, this beauty solved that perfectly
By dragon788
I needed more desk space in my cramped bedroom "apartment". Having run out of places to stick my laptop and my 24" Dell monitor I was forced to use the laptop from my bed with the monitor perched on the edge of the desk. This was inconvenient and holding the laptop in bed was causing some carpal tunnel to flare up. I saw this mount and had some extra cash from selling some surplus inventory so I jumped on it. I am SOOOO glad that I did. It works perfectly, I did move it from the back of my desk (180 degrees of motion) to the front of the desk (nearly 360 degrees if I had less cords) and now I can comfortably use my laptop from bed, or from a chair in front of the desk, or even standing in front of the desk. I can also adjust the 24" monitor from viewing in the bed for watching movies, to viewing from the desk chair for working. The only qualm I have, and this might simply be me needing to adjust a setting higher, is that the 24" monitor seems to "sag" and pulls the arm it is mounted to downward over time. But I am very impressed that on the laptop side I actually have the full Dell E-Port Plus port replicator mounted to the flat portion of the stand (E-View I think?) that I purchased for it when I had it sitting on my desk. This limited my range of motion slightly when I have the arm all the way down, but its multiple points of articulation offset this somewhat.
