Caution to Disabled Persons Using This Product

The bath bench was a disappointment because we were replacing a Guardian bath transfer bench that was purchased in late 1998 and the features in this bath bench is not comparable to our previous purchase. First, the suction cups are too small (compared to the original) to keep the bench from moving when transfering on or off. Second, this bath bench is shorter than the original which, when straddling a bath tub, is too short to sit completely inside the tub enclosure. Third, the seat back is tilted back (rather than straight up like the original model) which makes the bench unstable for those disabled persons with limited torso and upper-body strength and lifts the front of the bench when leaning too far back. Finally, this bath bench, unlike our original bath bench, does not include a commode bucket or pail so it could also be used as a portable commode.

The real skinny on this item - updated 5/16/13

I've been a para for 24 years now and had a lot of different benches. The nutshell version of the industry is that ALL BENCHES have been redesigned to be cheap and fail after a year so you have to replace them.The pads on this bench are decent, functionally it does what it is supposed to. However, SAVE YOUR RECEIPT. I just had one where the seating surface on one side cracked in half after about six months. I am NOT heavy, weighing roughly 160 pounds. I had to buy another one since the warranty service will take so long that I can't wait, so I'll end up having a spare.Basically, you need one, might as well buy this one as it's cheap and does what it's supposed to. As good as any of the alternatives. They are all pretty much crap.**** NOTE: There is an old review on here from 2008 and it does not apply to this device. This one has big suction cups and the back is completely straight up and down. ****-- UPDATE 09/26/12 --I was able to get in touch with the company that I had purchased the defective unit from and they gave me the direct line to Medline, who produces the Guardian benches. They sent me a replacement set of pads. All I had to send them was the lot number off the sticker. Great customer service. Updated to 4 from 3 stars.-- UPDATE 05/16/13 --The same piece failed again. The pads internally lose their resiliency and then they split along the vinyl seams. If you call Medline, the warranty on the FRAME is limited lifetime, but the pads are only SIX MONTHS now. They will sell you replacement pads through their online order division. I just bought the commode pad piece directly from them for $45 plus $9 shipping and applicable tax. Woman on the phone almost sent me the wrong piece, but I caught it. Total BS since the whole unit is under a hundred bucks but c'est la vie.

Gaurdian Shower Bench

The bench is everything a para like me could need....and it is set up to be so easily adjustable or "reversible" If I had to give something to criticize about I would say the padding could be better, there are some spots where the hard parts can be felt and for someone like me with no butt(my atrophy) that could make the difference...I am not complaining about this tho as the bench gets a thumbs up all around from me :)
