Scorpius 35Pro Keyboard
By M. A. Melnicoe
A review of the Scorpius 35 PRO keyboard: To avoid confusion this review is from both Marilyn and John Melnicoe, written by John: I have no reservations about giving this terrific keyboard 5 stars. The Scorpius 35 Pro is a normal layout, full sized keyboard with a great track ball with scrolling function. It also has indicator lights for Caps lock, Num lock, and scroll lock functions. Caps lock is essential, (Lacking on some wireless models) for doing password entry. This keyboard also has the standard little pop out legs for angling the board on the desk, if desired. The typing action is superb, quick and accurate. Any typist will likely love it. For those of you who want more details than you thought possible on this unit, please read on!My reason for considering this board, and eventually taking the risk without first trying it out, was due to a few needs my wife and I have. My wife has painful arthritis and limited vision. The idea of being able to easily see the keys was attractive. For myself, I am a fast typist and I do a lot of writing on the computer, so I needed a really high quality keyboard. I have had past keyboards that would miss characters due to poor key response, and I really do not like an unresponsive board. We both have trouble with using a separate mouse, and have a small work space. We both have tried several "touch pad" keyboards in the past and they are a real pain, often acting erratic and opening up windows and programs when this is not the intent, merely moving the curser around was problematic. A track ball does not have those issues, but a separate one is back to using two separate items. This keyboard appeared to meet all of our needs, including just having one USB cable, (we also are not fond of wireless keyboards, although the Zippy 636 is pretty good). We prefer wired, so this met the basic objectives, if it was good. Thankfully, it really is, so here is the breakdown:The Track Ball: There are only a few track ball keyboards out there, and apparently most are of the "optical" type, meaning the ball rolls over a light. This keyboard is "mechanical" both as to the actual keys you type on, meaning they are triggered by an actual switch, not a mushy rubber magnet going up/down to trigger a response, and the track ball rolls over physical metal sensors of some sort, rather than relying on light to control the cursor on the screen. I do not claim to know which is technically better; I suppose each may have their advantages. I have had good luck with past optical track balls, which were fine, but they were still separate items from the keyboard. From what I did read, it seemed people favored the "optical" type, but I was not clear on why other than some felt they were smoother. On this track ball however, the ball is large, very smooth and accurate as to the cursor, and it will scroll beautifully, a really nice feature. Perhaps it will need to be cleaned more often down the road, by taking the back of the keyboard off and popping out the ball, which can be done as I checked on this, but this mechanical track ball works great, smoothly, and is accurate. The big size is a plus to us, as it adds more control. I would advise for people, as with any good keyboard, to have relatively clean hands before working with it to avoid problems down the road, (you know, the late night P and J sandwich). Just below the track ball are 3 separate switches, the left and right click buttons which are typical of mouse operations, and in the middle is the "scroll" button. This is really nice! You push the scroll button and then use the track ball to scroll up or down in a very nicely controlled motion; the more you move the ball, the faster it will scroll in either direction. It is very responsive and accurate, and of course you still can use the up/down arrows. My past keyboards have not been as responsive on scroll function.TYPING: How does it type you ask? The video speaks about typing up to 6 characters at once and speaks a lot about the real mechanical switches used with this model. At first, it seemed odd to think about typing more than one character at once, but once I actually typed on the keyboard, it made sense. This is my view on why, I think I am correct. The ability of multiple keys working at the same time enables a person to type much faster and accurately without missed text. When typing fast, you do actually roll over the keys as you type, in that you have not yet let up on all the prior keys as you move on to the next key to enter the next character. If the board will only respond one or two at a time, you will miss the characters and have "drop out" as you are moving quickly, in sequence, on to the next letters, as you do not fully let up on the prior key just used. You literally roll over the keys to move on. If you are a musician, think of this as a mono versus a polyphonic keyboard that will allow you to play chords instead of just one note, (my wife came up with that one). It makes a big difference as to how fast you can go without drop outs. My own analogy: If old keyboards were an old VW, this new keyboard types like a high end race car, (no insult intended to old VW's). Regardless of the analogy, your fingers will know the difference.Ease of use and Noise: The video would indicate this is really a noisy keyboard. It does click, but not to the point of being a bother to us. However, it could be an issue if used around others in a really quiet space that are easily bothered by any noise, something to consider as to where you use it. The mechanical nature of this board is not silent. For us, the tradeoff for precise typing action is well worth the slight click of keys, it is not annoying to myself or to my wife, but I felt I should address it. In an odd way, it is actually rather satisfying. These keys are actually easier to press and get a response on as compared to most other keyboards. My wife was a bit concerned about this, as her fingers hurt, but she feels less pain, it is easier to work the keys, and less mistakes even for her are made despite her not being a great typist, (Sorry dear). The response, (sports car analogy) is really true on this keyboard; it is hard to describe other than to state most people will probably love it.The overall construction seems very good, and this is a rather heavy keyboard. It clearly appears to be built to last, which I would expect for the price. I think you get your value with this unit, and if good typing and control, with good visibility is important to you, definitely consider this one- it works really nicely. If you take care of it and keep the track ball clean, I would expect this board to work well for years, based on its weight, and overall apparent build quality. My wife and I love it thus far, and I have added an extender USB cable that is working perfectly, no drop outs or misses, so now I can type from my big boy recliner on the big screen, (at my age, this is an important option).Summary- (pros and cons): Great key response, great control and ease of use with the large, controllable track ball and scroll function, etc. It can type very, very fast, without mistakes of entry. Also, there are indeed 3 LED lights in the upper left corner for the Cap Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll functions. A minor note: When I first got this keyboard, I thought the LED lights were dull, but my wife noticed they were covered with a thin, protective film for shipping, so now the lights are clear since removal of the film, (remove the film). So, overall this is a really great keyboard, but to be balanced, I will point out a few minor quibbles that might be of value to some folks, (there is probably not on this planet an absolute perfect set up for all)1) The "Back" button: It works great, as do all the keys, but it is not larger than the other standard keys. This makes it seem a bit farther away by comparison. It would have been nice if they had made the rather large "Enter" key a bit smaller in order to enlarge the back key. I am not sure why they opted to not do that, but there it is. This is actually the only quibble I have, and I must admit it bothers me a bit, but I still love the board overall. The space bar is great and responsive, but is a bit shorter than some, but this does not affect the typing.2) No unusual shortcut keys: This actually is not a con-it is a standard keyboard, and does actually have the typical shortcut keys to open up windows menus, it does not lack anything, but it does not have things such as home theater volume, a hot button for e-mail or internet opening, etc. Conclusion: 5 Stars. My wife and I love this board and its track ball, it makes entry and computer use much easier for us. Further, it uses only ONE USB cable, (some combo wired units use two cables). It truly types with ease, is very accurate and responsive, and the track ball function is well controlled, accurate, and the scroll function is really nice. This board really is a dream to type on. There is nothing like it I am aware of out there for typing, ease of use, medical issues, and the ideal combination of a track ball, scroll, and nice keys. My wife and I highly recommend it - a clear 5 star rating. I am baffled by the lack of reviews on this, so thought I would help out. There is a You Tube review which left me puzzled on a few issues, such as key size, and how would it actually feel. The keys are normal, but clearer. I hope this has been helpful to you. (The regular 35 with regular lettering I believe is the same board, so if large lettering is not important to you, you can save a few bucks on this unit).

Solid keyboard but needs some improvement
By ~ N ~
I recently adopted a standing setup and find that moving the mouse around has been hard on my shoulder and lateral back muscle on my right side (mouse hand). Subsequently I decided to order this keyboard because it could serve as a replacement to both my keyboard and mouse, and in hopes that the trackball would alleviate the shoulder issues I was having.Pros: Solid feel, great key clicking sound, nice weighted device, over-sized trackball, neat designCons: Did not register all keys when I was typing really fast, trackball is not optical so it did not respond as quickly as I would have liked it to, no scroll wheel, priceIn the end I decided to return this device and opted for a traditional kensington optical trackball to supplement my existing keyboard.

great keyboard with trackball, overpriced
By David
great keyboard with trackball, the oversized yellow lettering can be a bt jarring but the trackball is good, the keys very solid precise feeling. My only complaint would be the price is a bit expensive for a plug in keyboard.
