Installed this subwoofer, couldn't be happier.

I installed this subwoofer into my Smartcar and now I can turn it up real loud and vibrate around the parking lot of Walmart. My friends and I all have these in our Smartcars and we just vibrate around sometimes bumping into each other and people. It's good fun.

Perfect for a good basic sound system

I've never been one to order the premiere sound system from factory, I prefer to build one myself. I have a 2008 Sierra CrewCab and have two of these under the back seat and they are perfect. Im not trying to let anyone down the block hear my system but inside my truck it's concert loud with a sweet bass note to back up the mids and highs. I love it

little sub....HUGE BASS

Wow. That's the first word that came to mind after i installed this little wonder. JL already has an outstanding reputation for sound quality and power especially when it comes to their subs. This 8" w3 series is no exception. I was considering a smaller sub because of the cramped space i have in my jeep wrangler. I researched which sub i wanted for my jeep for a few months before buying this one, so i know what this thing is capable of and the quality sound it can produce. I needed a sub that produced maximum sound with minimum space requirements; this sub definitely meets and surpasses this criteria. After installing this sub in a sealed box that meets the performance requirements, it took up hardly any space and sounds phenomenal(when matched up with the proper amplifier). The 8w3 comes second only to the 8w7(which is pricey) and it sounds like two 10's, if not better.

Nice toolbox overall, very bad lid gasket

I am happy with my new toolbox (Dee Zee 8170 WL). Construction is good, welds are all continuous, no gaps or holes. Handles & harware are sufficient, not real heavy duty like some but not cheapo either. Plastic tool tray it comes with is not of much use since it is sized for a standard toolbox and this is the extra wide toolbox. Mounting hardware consists of foam to place between box and bed and 2 J-hooks with nuts and washers. Only one J-hook per side is not sufficient as far as I am concerned, the toolbox is subject to shift around during braking or acceleration. I used three 3/8" galvanized bolts on each side and drilled straight thru the toolbox and bed rail. Much more secure. The lid gasket it came with was totally useless. The entire back piece and one side were laying in the bottom of the toolbox when it arrived. Was cheap gray foam about 7/16"-1/2" thick. Using a piece of clay I found there is about a 3/4" gap between the box and lid when closed so the supplied gasket doesn't even touch. Not much use in keeping water out. I replaced it with 1" wide x 7/8" thick neoprene foam and it works great. Should come from the factory like this. All said, still a great bargain at $227 delivered plus about $20 for foam, bolts and nuts.

Wow, I am impressed

I have 5.1 HT of these /with black frame/ and a single SLS 12" subwoofer. Powered by high end Denon, 135W a channel. These speakers are compact, but they have excellent clarity and power. I compare the sound to mid-priced (less than $1000 each) speakers of my friends - Energy, KEF. These are superior for movies. They create the phenomenal sound stage for club/techno music. The speakers are very sensitive/dinamic too.If you can hear, and you prefer crisp sound, Klipsch are perfect. If you like smuggled and warmer sound, better look for another brand, I guess. I like clear sound and ability to distinguish the sounds of separate objects /you need to listen to THX speakers and you'll understand/. Example, these reproduce torn metal in movies as it sounds in reality, I couldn't belive it at first.In general, these speakers are able to make you feel you are in the middle of a large cinema hall or a well designed night club, without any distortion. That was the moment I said "Wow" when I felt it for the first time; and that was the reason for me writing a review. They can be run just by powerful single receiver. They are sensitive enough and you won't need separate amp, although I can feel the speakers are underpowered and good 200W per channel amp may be desirable.

A Very Good Unit with a Few Shortcomings

I bought this unit due to the fact that it is direct drive, has a quality S-shaped tone arm, and plays 78's. I have three problems with it, though. There is no cue lever. There is no auto return at the end of a record. And the dust cover is cloth. This means the record is exposed during playback. More importantly, you have to be very careful when removing the cloth cover that it doesn't snag the stylus. This happened to me last week, and my favorite Stanton 6800 EEE Mk111 stylus was ruined. I am going to be more careful. I am also going to see about adapting a plastic dust cover from another turntable.

Audiofile's turntable USB dream!

This purchase was my third attempt to get a USB turntable that was USB and a great turntable. The Stanton T.90 turntable is an audiofile's dream. Looks great with the metal platter, adjustments, and blue accent lights. Multiple adjustments, three speeds 33, 45, & 78, USB and standard audio jacks. Works prefect!This is the important part. I purchsed this turntable to transfer my analog 12" records to MP3s. The software included with this unit is PC format and I have a Mac. No problem, I purchased, Amadeus Pro, Forty bucks. Total cost for turntable, software, cables etc. under $400.Now, the PROCESS. The process to move analog to digital is very time consuming. I repeat TIME CONSUMING. The process involves playing the record, at actual speed, and producing a new digital file. After you make the file you will need to go back and remove the clicks and scratches. This is also time consuming. The next step is to BURN a CD to transfer the digital file. Finally, you can add the CD to iTunes. If the record is not in the iTunes/Gracenote database you will have to enter the record's song titles, info, and find artwork on your own. Time involved, 2 to three hours; plus. If you do nothing except transfer files you can produce 3 to 5 records per day or one after work before you go to bed.I have a 1000 records and I now believe it will take me over one to two year to complete. I do not recommend this process to anyone accept to the real hardcore audiofile. I suggest buying new CD's or download from iTune store. The results are outstanding but heavy on TIME; that I don't haveT.90 USB TURNTABLE.

Stanton T.90 USB vs. Numark TTusb

The biggest advantage of the Stanton for basic users is the ability to play 78rpm records at their intended speed, which means that you can enjoy the music while digitizing the record, also allowing feedback while the music is playing. With the Numark TTUSB Turntable with USB, which plays only 33rpm & 45rpm, you can't very well listen to a record that's playing at the wrong speed, so when you're finished, you may discover a fault in the recording in the first 15 seconds that would have caused you to stop the record, correct the situation, & start over again. With the Stanton, the audible feedback will allow you to immediately stop the recording, saving you valuable time. Another related advantage is that if you have to record the 78rpm disc at 45rpm speed (which is what you have to do on the Numark), it will take you 73% longer to record than if the record can be played at 78rpm. That means that a 3 minute 78rpm record will take over 5 minutes to record on the Numark, AND you won't be able to listen to it while it's recording. For buyers with 78rpm records, the Stanton is well worth the extra money. For buyers with only 33rpm & 45rpm records, the Numark is an excellent value & the better choice.

I recently had to change my surround sound set up due to placement of a new flat screen. I purchased the Mythos Seven to replace my Klipsch C2 center channel speaker. I was very impressed with the overall sound quality and the clarity of voices. At times with my old set up voices were hard to hear depending on what was going on in the movie. With the Mythos center I have not had this problem. Also, the size of the speaker was great with my set up. The speaker was small enough to fit on my mantle underneath the TV. I was so impressed with the speakers that I have decided to purchase the Mythos five to compliment the center.

Definitive Delivers Again!

I needed a low-profile center channel to replace my bulkier DefTech older speaker (ProCenter100) and chose this one based on price and dimensions.I had no worries about choosing DefTech again b/c I have owned a 5.1 sytem from them since 2000, and have been absolutely satisfied since day one! They also just recently sent me replacement parts at no cost to fix a damaged satellite speaker and the process was exceptional with their customer service department!Let's face it - If you love GREAT sound and service you can brag about to your friends who aren't audiophile nerds, and you yourself are as close to an audiophile nerd as I am, don't blow your money on other systems/speakers. This is the best sound you will get out of bookshelf speakers compared to anyone else at a great price!Definitive Technology, you have delivered once again! Thanks-a-million!

recommendation and a buyer's word of advice

I agree totally with the reviews; this toy is a learning tool and a never ending fun toy. It taught me to look beyond just the single model and learn to think up new designs and possibilities.A word of caution about what to look for when purchasing: The one reviewer has an excellent point about pricing. When considering buying a model or set, look at the price and the relative newness of the set (the year it was released). Some do overprice models for 3-400 dollars when it should be much closer to the actual price when it was released. Some "city" sets were released 2-7 years ago, and the "town" sets were released even earlier. This is the case with many of the themes. Those that are known to be limited edition or sets that were released from the 90s or even earlier MAY have that value, but not all. Make sure of the year and type and price and what you really like before deciding.

My 6 yr old son and I have enjoyed this set quite a bit. He enjoyed building it. Parents should supervise younger ages as the rubber-bands holding the car wash brushes pop out easily if parts are angled incorrectly.

Like Gold!

So I started with a $150.00 subwoofer (private label through Circuit city). It was rated a 4.8 out of 5 so I gave it shot. Everbody said "great sub for the money". Well it was just that, it was extremely muddy sounding. Then I went to a Klipsh Synergy 10" for $280 through Best Buy. Again great reviews, plus it was $120 off the $399 retail. Much clearer in sound, great power and fills the room BUT the sub had terrible definition for bass guitar. Sooo I finally just stepped it up and spent the extra buck (and came across a deal) to go to the Definitive Tech ProSub 800. WOW what a difference! Not only did the bass rolloff like a waterfall but the definition was perfection. The funniest thing is that this has to be the SMALLEST, MOST, POWERFUL sub on the market. Everything I saw was obnoxious in size...this thing is so small! So if you aren't able to hide your sub behind anything, this unit can easily be out in the open and not be a distraction. My sub is paired up with(2) ProMontior 800 front speakers and Yamaha V663 receiver. I also had (2) existing in-wall Jamo speakers for surround. All together the system sounds phenomonal for music...plus its all so small and clean looking. I have an open concept space (vaulted ceiling and loft). Combo great room and dining room is about 525 sq. ft and the sound radiants thougout the space.I was lucky enough to get this ProSub with minor cosmetic damage on Amazon for $299. After hearing and seeing it, I would highly recommend this sub for $399, personally I think they could get away with $499 since it offers premium bass definition in such a industry leading small size.

Small But Big

This little sub can deliver a hell of a punch when it needs to and then remind you that it's got some big power when it needs to give you a rumble. The instructions are simple to read and informative enough to feel like you just plugged it in and got it going right out of the box. This sub will definitely shake you home.This is a great deal for a subwoofer, especially one from a high-end speaker manufacturer. They check everything before it leaves them to get to you so you should receive a perfectly made subwoofer. The construction is solid and there is nothing on it that feels cheap.I tried it with Dark Knight and the sounds were just as creepy as when I first saw it in the the theater. The rumbling and humming in the background just set the mood.I would totally recommend getting this sub, whether you've got to spend a little extra or you get to save a little more, this sub is totally worth it.I am using this with a Yamaha RX-V730 A/V Receiver and Definitive Technology SSA-50 Single Speaker Array. Dark Knight played from an HBO HD recording on a TiVo Series 3 HD in 5.1.And with Amazon Prime you can get it the next day for $3.99.

Best Sub on the Market!

I'm very satisfied with the sound and functionality of the Definitive sub. The bass is bone-rattling and will shake your whole house, but it is very clean sounding with no vibration in the case itself. I've got it connected with a single Monster subwoofer cable to my Onkyo receiver. Very easy setup. The appearance is very elegant. I like the volume control on the side. The Prosub 800 is perfect for a small living room.The only gripe I have is that it has an auto-off feature. If the sub doesn't receive a bass signal after about an hour, it shuts off. So when I'm watching a TV program or movie with lots of dialogue it will shut off and then pop back on (with a noticeable popping sound) when there is either an explosion or loud music. It is a small gripe because you never have to worry about leaving it on accidentally.Listening to music is a dream with this sub. I'm in to rock and heavy metal, so this sub makes it seem as though a machine gun is going off in my house (scares the dog). I love it.

Wallpaper Peeled Right Away!

My fiance and I stripped heinous wallpaper out of our new dining room yesterday, and used this solution with the scoring tool of the same brand. It worked great! Stripping wallpaper is frustrating but getting big pieces off the wall all at once, which this solution allowed us to do, is uniquely satisfying!The only note I would make is that we did double the amount of solution-to-water. We were using a 32 oz spray bottle to apply the product and used about 2oz/bottle rather than the 1oz that the directions indicated would be the proper ratio. Still, we hardly used any of the concentrate (the entire dining room took about 1 gallon of solution to strip.)I DEFINITELY recommend this product!

Mythos Silvers are a Steal

The Mythos 3 is competent mid-level center speaker with no discernible shortcomings. After weeks of researching, I settled on Definitive Technology's Mythos line of speakers. Despite most of them being released several years ago, they still have a modern look. However, the main attraction is value. Many of the silver-finish Mythos speakers are easy to find on sale for over 50% off. Even at full MSRP, they perform very well for their price. My configuration is: 2x Definitive Technology Mythos 1 Tower Speaker (Single, Silver) fronts, 1x Definitive Technology Mythos 3 Center Speaker (Single, Silver) center, 2x Definitive Technology Mythos Gem Satellite Speakers (Pair, Black) surrounds, 1x Epik Sentinel subwoofer (Def Tech supercubes are slick and good for their size, but overpriced). My receiver is a Denon AVR2310CI 7.1-Channel Multi-Zone Home Theater Receiver with 1080p HDMI Connectivity (aka Denon 890). It has more than engouh power for me, I usually listen at -20 to -30 db.The Mythos 3 lends a clear and vibrant voice to TV shows and fills the soundstage with impressive realism. The size is pretty significant; if you're considering the Mythos 3, you might want to consider upgrading to the Definitive Technology Mythos 9 Aluminum Speaker (Single, Silver) for a truly crystal clear sound with only a slightly bigger footprint. Of course, you'll be spending almost twice as much for a Mythos 9. I believe the Mythos 8 (slimmer) is also recommended for pairing with Mythos 1 fronts, however the 9 in silver is almost the same price. On the slighlty cheaper side, there is the Mythos 7; but I preferred the fuller sound of the Mythos 3.Overall, the Mythos 3 is an amazing performer for the price and will be the best center for many looking to get great 5.1 performance on a $2000-$2500 budget.UPDATE: It looks like mythos silver speakers are practically sold out everywhere. While the Mythos line are still great speakers even at the higher price for the black cabinets, they will require a 5.1 budget of $4000.

Center Clarity

My wife bought this for my birthday after I specified which one I wanted. I had heard one in a local store and was very impressed with it. This speaker was an upgrade from the inexpensive one I had. It was an extraordinary improvement. It has all the clarity you could want for a center speaker. Conversations are easy to hear and understand at all volume levels. It's not cheap, but it is well worth the money if you're having problems understanding dialog. Music sound quality is also extremely good and at some point we will probably buy matching right and left speakers to go with it.

My System

My system consists of Mythos 4's for the Front speakers, Mythos 5's for the rear surrounds, a Mythos 3 for the center channel and a Super Cube II for the sub. I drive these with a Denon 2310ci and my video is a Pioneer Elite KURO signature series 60" monitor 141FD. My AV room is around 14' x 20.The sound from this system is really nice. Clean and uncolored, very natural best describes it. The system also has a great Wife Acceptance Factor. The look is classy and does not look out of place in the room. The center channel is amazingly clear. I've always had a complaint about the muffled center channel sound on many home systems. This center delivers. The Denon Audyssey setup leaves a sound stage that is close to perfect. No holes or hotspots. The sub is powerful and moves a tremendous amount of air for it's diminutive size.I find that the system is as good for listening to music as it is for surround sound and while not inexpensive, it is one of the best bang for the buck systems I've ever listened to. I've owned this system for a little over a year and would buy it again today in a heartbeat.

Shiseido Enriched Balancing Softener

I have used this product for years and have been able to purchase it at a department store cosmetic counter. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case because Shiseido has "improved" it adding ingredients that I am sensitive to. Needless to say, I was thrilled to be able to still get the original formula online and it is exactly what I was looking for.

THIS IS THE BEST LIQUID IN THE LINE

In my opinion, of course. I use this after cleansing, or washing, or showers, and then put on a moisturizer. Keeps me going all day, and that is saying something because I have had dry skin all my life, until I found this Shiseido item. I scrimp on other purchases, but not with this Shiseido Benefiance Enriched Balancing Softener. Big bottle lasts me a year or more. Love the line, always come back to it.
