By J. Haas
All I can say is it's a great DVD player for the money with excellent features, some not even found on 95% on players on the market. The main reason I bought this was because my projector, the Benq MP622C only accepted high def signals via a component VGA-type port. Therefore I needed a player that could send HD (for me 720p or 1080i, but I think it does 1080p as well) over component. Since component technology doesn't support the security built in to DVDs, most named brand players won't send HD over it. The H4000 will, which is a huge boost for those who have an HD projector/TV that will only accept HD signals via component. The construction of this player is lightweight and not so solid, but as long as you're not reckless with it it won't break. I've been absolutely happy with the performance of this player considering its price.

If you have an old big screen HD-ready TV (capable of putting out 1080i resolution) that has no HDMI input, you may be stuck. This is the ONLY DVD player I could find that would do up-scaling to 1080i over a component interface.Pros:-- The ONLY non-gray market DVD player that does up-scaling to 1080i over a component interface-- Looks great, works great (for the most part).-- Plays region 2 (UK)Cons:-- Controls are slightly flaky-- Goes into a weird demo mode if input power is cut (even when it is turned off)-- Quite expensive-- Slightly higher power consumption

By J. Alex G
Pros:The upscaling is great. It produces a great picture for the money. Nothing wrong here. Also it plays almost any content that you can throw at it. Basic rule is, if you can put it on a disc, and it doesn't have DRM, this player will probably play it. I wish all players worked this way.Cons:However, there are numerous annoyances with this player concerning control:1. Pausing the player for too long makes it get out of sync- the sound and picture are thrown off. I've upgraded the firmware from the Helios site (they claim they have a fix) and still I see no improvement. (Either that or the update didn't work after numerous tries)2. "Smart Play" mode is turned on by default. Really annoying. This makes the player pick a chapter on the disc (sometimes not chapter #1- therefore it should be called "dumb play" mode) and play it as soon as the disc is inserted. Thankfully, this can be turned off.3. Subtitles are turned on by default when you first turn it on. Annoying. They can be turned off though. I think they will stay off for good after you correct it- that is, until you upgrade the firmware. Then you have to deal with this again.4. The eject button on the player itself is very unresponsive. (The buttons on the remote are OK)5. Fast Forward and Rewind move far too slowly through the video content.6. I've had the player lock up totally, but very very infrequently. Unplugging it and plugging it back in fixes it. This has only happened since I hooked the HDMI cable up to it, but it could just be a coincidence.7. Forget about any run-of-the-mill universal remotes knowing how to operate this player, unless they are "learning" universal remotes. If they would just fix these #$%$!@ interface fleas, this would have been a truly great player. It is a shame how close this player comes to true greatness, only to be hampered by lots of little annoying stuff- things that a few more days in Q & A surely would have caught before this player went out the door.My Bottom line:Great picture, plays lots of content. The control of the player is useable but annoying at times. Some of this stuff may eventually get resolved by their firmware updates on their site though.
