Product Description

I used this tea infuser (black one) for 11 years+. Purchased in Dec 2001, and broke last night (Feb 2013).The plastic lid has a fissure but it does not leak. After 11 years of use, the metal connection between the bottom piece and the thread holding the handle broke.I think 11 years+ is a good lifetime for a tea infuser. I am buying another one.

I should preface this with saying that I'm aware people don't generally buy Alessi products for their utilitarian purposes. However, since these are sold as kitchen tools (and not, you know FINE ART), one would like to think that a $100+ french press would stand up to more than 3 months of use.And, to add insult to injury, this is the SECOND Alessi alien press for my husband--he owned one before we married and it broke, and we got the second one as a wedding gift, which also just broke.What broke on both presses? Well if it were just the carafe, that's understandable. I think I've broken about 10 carafes total on french presses in my lifetime. Nor was it the plunging operation or the cute little alien holder. No, it was the plastic cap that serves to keep your coffee warm and from pouring all over the counter when you go for a cup. Both plastic caps simply snapped in half and fell off. At the moment we're still using it (squidging the cap halves in place and holding them when we pour) but I'm getting pretty p.o.'ed at looking at this super pricey piece o' crap and wishing we'd put something else on the registry.So if you buy it, use it seldom or put it on a shelf to look pretty. And then get a cheaper press for actual life.
