Looks good, works well, but...
By W. B. Halper
I have both this arm and it's big brother, the 3M 3M Desk Mount Easy-Adjust Monitor Arm (MA200MB). There's a substantial difference between the two:(sorry about the formatting...Amazon removes the spaces that are needed to keep things pretty)Model: MA100MB; MA200MBBack of monitor to arm pivot: 11"; 14"Center of post to arm pivot: 7-1/4"; 9-1/4"Post height from desk top: 7-1/2"; 13"Mounting point of arm on post: Fixed; Adjustable with a hex wrenchUp-down movement of monitor: Fixed Steps; Smoothly AdjustableMax Monitor Weight: 18 lbs; 20 lbsMonitor Mounting: Both have 75mm square hole pattern with 100mm adapter plate.Desk mounting: Both have interchangable clamp and through-hole mounting platesPost design: Sleek and Tapered; Round Post that looks like a pipeIn appearance, I really prefer the smaller MA100MB. The MA200MB is industrial looking and is something I'd expect to see in a commercial setting. The MA100MB looks much better and would be much more appropriate in a home office. Why then only three stars? Simple...I've found it impossible to keep the screws tightened in the MA100MB as I move the arm around. There is a long screw that act as the pivot in the middle of the arm. Another screw (actually they're bolts) holds the monitor mounting plate assemble to the arm. Both loosen as I move the arm around and/or adjust the angle of the monitor. Admittedly, most people will find a good position for the monitor and will rarely move it, but I find myself, hex wrench in-hand, tightening it down much more than I'd like.

Great flexibility and easy of use! This is a winner!
By G. Naylor
I wanted to free up some space on my desk top as well as the ability to rotate my monitor. I decided to try the 3M mount. Wow, was I surprised at what I got. Very easy to install. It went up in a few short minutes. Very easy to use. I was immediately able to move my monitor in all 3 dimensions. It is a little stiff at first but that keeps it in place as it floats the monitor in space over your desk. 90 degree rotation was no problem. It's a snap to rotate it to scan through long web pages. This is a big advantage of a widescreen monitor IF you can rotate it 90 degrees. I was so happy with my purchase I bought a second one for my other computer. This thing just flat out works exactly as it should. It is pricy but worth it!

Apparently this one isn't quite expensive enough...

There are a couple of "features" on this model that I found very frustrating. It's all in the pivoting joints which provide the forward/backward and left/right tilt adjustments. (You can't see them in any of the pictures here.) The left/ right swivel is mounted rigidly to the arm, which can be set to several different angles to provide an overall height adjustment. The forward/back pivot is then mounted rigidly to the first one at a right angle. The problem: If you set the arm to one of the higher height settings (as I needed), the pivot angles get way out of whack, and are no longer positioned anywhere close to the proper vertical & horizontal axes required for easy adjustment. What this means is that you can't just tilt the monitor directly forward/backward or left/right - you have to go diagonally one way, then another, then cuss a little, then try again... Added to this is the fact that the pivots are nearly impossible to adjust to the proper amount of friction - they're always either too tight or too loose. It might be livable if you just wanted to wrestle it into one position and leave it there forever, but of course that kinda defeats the purpose of buying one of these things. I wound up exchanging mine for an Ergotron LX, which was even more expensive (around $130). In the end I was a bit surprised at how much I had to spend just to get a useable product in this category, but the Ergotron does work extremely well. For another 30 bucks, it makes this one look like a toy.
