This pump is built like a Cadillac. It is heavy duty and robust, and built in the USA. I wish they would say that on the ad for the product. That being said, DO NOT order this product from ACEHardwareoutlet. I ordered 2 of these. The pumps were packed on their sides in a double box with almost no secondary packing material. The manufacturer has 'up' arrows labeled all over the original boxes and they ignored them and packed them on the sides. They weigh 40 lbs and were packed like they were light weight material. Both pumps took a beating but one was leaking an oil substance out of it, so I called Customer Service, which was horrible. They were rude and not helpful. The e mails took a day to get back to me, so I started calling them. They would not ship me a pump until they got the old one back and confirmed damage due to shipping. They asked me if I turned the pump on? - Of course not it was leaking oil!They would not expedite me a replacement, nor make any compensations. They tried to get shipping recovery damage from UPS even though I told them it was their fault, it was packed incorrectly. I am still waiting for my replacement pump.

By just the facts
I did a lot of research and this pump is absolutely amazing. Zoeller brand in itself is respectable and their products are rock solid. I purchased the 98-001 replacing the Zoeller 53 series sump pump and can not say how impressed I am with this pump. I am extremely disappointed with seller Crogan Plumbing & Heating Supplies, Inc. who sold it to me through Amazon, the packaging was an absolute joke, it was packaged in a thin box that had no padding and the item is extremely heavy. But the pump itself is worth every penny and works very well, and is very quite. The 1/2 HP out preforms most 3/4 HP pump in efficiency and will last many years. For an extra 38.00 Zoeller will extend the warranty for 3 years, well worth it.

Our area is not prone to flooding and we never had a need for a sump pump; however, we wanted to be prepared for Hurricane Irene and bought the Zoeller 98 to be on the safe side. Best investment ever! Around midnight, water started to back up into our basement b/c the storm drains were getting saturated. Long story short, the sump pump was able to keep up with the water coming into the basement and we're glad that we opted for the 1/2 horse power model because I don't think a lower HP model would've done the job. One thing that really surprised me was how quiet this model is - almost couldn't even tell it was on. I would not hesitate to recommend this to my friends and family. This model is expensive but you have to think about how much money you save in terms of water damage. Spend once cry once and then be happy that you went with this model.
