We purchased this to hang from a custom-made wrought iron hook above an outdoor fireplace. It looks very nice installed and lit, and nicely complements our slightly eclectic California Mission architecture.The lantern itself is sturdy and appears to be well made. The lantern arrives neatly packaged with the six foot cord attached. The only assembly step required is to screw the loop (pre-threaded on the cable) onto the top of the lantern. The package insert indicates that the two separate glass shades can be purchased as replacement parts in case of breakage or vandalism. Ours arrived with all the glass intact, we managed to not drop it during installation, and I'm certainly hoping vandals are not going to be a problem.Having the electrical cable pre-connected inside the lantern might be convenient for many installations, but it added to the complexity for us. We had to thread the wire up the chain and through the bar with everything on the ground, then connect the electrical at the box with the lantern dangling from the hook before finally mounting the hook on the wall. If disconnecting the wire at the lantern had been an option, I believe the juggling of the heavy and valuable object would have been easier.

This is a well-constructed lantern that installed with no problem. As it is heavy you may want a second person to assist. The lightly seeded, translucent light amber shade casts a warm glow that provides good lighting at the front door. The bronze metal finish is not very golden and appears to be of good quality. The style is compatible with our Mission-ish front door and outdoor wall sconces. It would also look well with Asian or nautical themes. It was a great value on sale, and compares well with higher-priced lanterns.
