Our son's respiratory system is significantly compromised and he has a trach tube. As you would expect, he occasionally requires suction assistance. We've used one of these units for over a year, and it just works. It has sufficient draw for the thickest secretions and is extremely durable. Spares are readily available and it's maintenance free. We've purchased a second unit and it's been installed in our wheel chair van, powered by a pure sine wave inverter. If there's any negative, it's fairly noisy (but not unexpectedly so)

We bought this unit in October of 2011 and kept it as backup for several months. When it was put in service several months ago, it worked well until a couple of weeks ago. It failed to start and has not started since. I sent an enquiry to Medline a week ago but have not heard anything. I understand that sometimes things fail for no apparent reason. However, I do expect a reply to my email requesting guidance or repair or replacement.
