After having these speakers for about six months, I can recommend them whole heartedly. I have had speakers from PSB, Boston Acoustics, Paradigm and Yamaha. These Definitives are unrivaled for clarity. Don't be fooled by their size, these things can fill a room with sound. They have two built in wall mounting options, Keyhole slot and threaded insert, that makes them very decor/plasma TV friendly. They also rate very high on the "Wife Approval Factor" for aesthetics. Understand that these speakers do require at least a couple of weeks break in time to sound their best.

Looking for some good speakers to pair with my new RX-A800 avr, I auditioned numerous speakers, and ended up with a pair of these for my main l/r speakers.Reasons why:Much smaller and sleeker than most others.Much cheaper than floorstanding, but still almost-comparable sound quality.Available floor stands that match, fit solidly, and look good....and best of all, they'll make great surround speakers when I decide to upgrade l/r speakers!! (they're wall-mountable, too!)Runners-up:B&W 686... I really really really liked the sound on these (actually just a notch above the ProMonitor1000s) - but they were more expensive and not as stylish (the box-design has been done before).Martin Logan Motion 4... surprisingly good sound (especially a huge step up from the slightly-cheaper Motion 2s) but it just sounded more harsh to my ears. Maybe these are better for movies, and not music. You'd be happy with them if you hadn't heard the DefTech's or B&Ws!bonus tip: keep your eye out for 10% off single-item coupon at Best Buy or Magnolia, and use that to buy these! That's what I did!

I've always wanted a really nice sound system. I'm not one of these people that has 10 grand to throw around on an entertainment center and thinks of dropping a grand on speaker as something you do for the bedroom or for the kids.Pretty much these are for the nicest home theater I'll ever buy and the last one I'll buy until we get into holographic TV or whatever comes after that so for me this was it.Basically I would be an audiophile if I could afford to be one, but I can't so this is the closest I'm going to come.I got these from ABT electronics in Chicago, but wanted to write the review here on Amazon as well as there because when you're online you can't hear how they compare.I compared them to every other speaker system in the 800-2000 price range for a 7.1 channel system, not including the tuner and nothing else they had there sounded as good as these.First off, these are incredibly vivid and lifelike. What is amazing about them is that they are able to give you the subtle sounds and dialogue clearly and distinctly without having to turn it up to a point where sound effects etc get so loud that it's unwatchable.This is my annoying history with surround sound systems. They are either too loud, and drowning out the dialogue or else you have to turn it down and then you can't hear what people are saying or pick up on the "surround" part of the surround sound.Granted, you can compensate for these things to a point with messing around with changing the individual channel volumes and what not, but ultimately you're constrained by the quality of the speakers.The Bose lifestyle speakers were flat and lifeless in comparison to these and I could see myself dropping $1,500 to just continue with the same struggle. Others were better than the Bose, but not as good as these.To be fair I got them for $229.00 a pair, not apiece. I also got the center channel speaker for $219.00. They had a pretty sweet deal going on.These are just so vivid that it's remarkable. They are to sound what HD is to sight. Just as with an HDTV your eyes pick up on details that you never noticed before (I didn't know she had so man freckles!) with these speakers you pick on sounds you never noticed before.Your ears don't have to strain. You relax and you hear everything at the level you should hear it at, but you hear everything.The other thing that's impressive is that sound from the speakers actually makes you feel as though you're in a room bigger than you're in. It's as though the depth of sound goes beyond the walls.It's possible that there are other speakers in this price range that are going to give you the same kind of impression. But I didn't hear any of them in the listening room at Abt, which has a pretty impressive selection.I don't use these for listening to music, I use them for watching TV and movies. If you want a truly deep, high-def, bright, vivid and clear listening experience, buy these.
