5You really need too hear these speakers to understand what you're missing.
By RichJ
OK, a true story (owners of bipolar speakers can probably relate to this). I finally realized that the overpriced and seriously disappointing Yamaha speakers that came with the Yamaha HTIB system that I bought last year were never going to produce a very convincing home theater experience. So out I went to audition new speakers to replace those Yamaha speakers. After visiting several local audio/home theater stores and auditioning numerous Polk, Klipsch, Boston Acoustics, JBL, and other brands of bookshelf and tower speakers along the way, I couldn't say that any one of those speakers created an overly impressive soundfield. Granted, many of them were great sounding speakers. But they all created a very noticeable and unacceptable presence, and sounded like so much "sound in a box". Some of speakers had a more objectionable "boxy" presence than others. At that point I found myself standing in the speaker showroom and asking the sales person, "Is that all you've got"? The sales person said, "Well, I've got some Definitive Technology towers". By that time I thought I'd already heard the best speakers they had for the money. I really wasn't expecting much so I told him to go ahead and fire them us. Then he switched on the the Definitve Technology BP6B's. The minute the BP6B's came to life, the front soundfield exploded and expanded into an enormous and very life-like presence, all without the speakers sounding anything like just "sound in a box". In fact, the bipolar design of these speakers gives them a very airy and spatial quality with an almost stealth-like ability to mask their physical location. Then I asked the sales person to switch back and forth between the BP6B's and the other speakers that I'd already listened to. Everytime the BP6B's were switched off, the front soundfield immediately collapsed and I was left standing there listening to just "sound in a box" from the other speakers. That was all it took for me to make my decision, and I've never regretted it.Some audio experts seem to think that loud sound fired directly at you from a box creates an enjoyable listening experience, regardless of the sound quality. I have to disagree. I personally need speakers which create a big life-like listening experience with a natural spatial quality to it. With the bipolar design of the BP6B's, I found EXACTLY what I was looking for. To be fair, bipolar speakers can be a little fussy about where they're located in relation to walls. For best sound, they need to be placed out away from the wall behind them. But that characteristic can also allow for tweaking the sound a bit to suit your own personal preference more than conventional box speaker designs allow for. Like my review title reads, if you haven't listened to these speakers from Definitive Technology (or any other good bipolar design speaker for that matter), you really have to hear what these speakers are capable of to fully understand what you're missing from conventional front-firing speaker designs. And judging by the overwhelming number of positive reviews I've seen on Amazon and numerous other sites, I'm not the only one who really appreciates these speakers.Honestly, after experiencing these BP6B speakers in action, I was very willing to pay the full list price just to own a pair of these unbelieveable beauties. But what really put this whole audio experience over the top was when I started checking prices online for these speakers. Instead of paying the usual list price of $399/each, I discovered one of Amazon's sellers (also an authorized Def Tech dealer) had these same speakers on sale for only $399/per pair new in the box. I got a truly amazing pair of speakers at 50% off list price. It just doesn't get any better than that. If I don't like something, I'll say so. But in the case of the BP6B's, they still continue to amaze me with their room-filling airy sound and I can't recommend these speakers enough for home theater, or even music. Thanks for taking time to read my comments. Enjoy!

5Amazon tech advice was excellent on BP^
By O. Brown
When replacing my old speakers used in my home theater, I asked for advice from Amazon tech services. They recommended these Definitive Technology BP6's as really good speakers but not too expensive. Was she ever right! These are the best I've ever heard and my friend who years ago bought $5000 speakers agreed that these are REALLY good(he wouldn't say as good) but I think they are terrific and so was the advice.

5VERY nice
By R. Hardy
Way back in 1997, I bought a ProCinema 100 system, with the ProMonitor 100s, ProCenter 100, and ProSub 100 ("Thundering Betty"), and had some cheepies for the surrounds. Always LOVED it. As a 40th birthday present to myself, decided to upgrade the fronts and move the 100s to the surrounds. Thought briefly about the BP7006, but living in a townhouse with nice neighbors, I can't go too overboard. Went with the BP6B.I can't believe how much fuller and richer the sound is, and it was already excellent. They really are stunning. I was dubious about the bi-polar thing, but now I'm a believer. Also purchased a promonitor 2000, so I have perfectly matched tweeters and mids across the front. The ProSub now just quitely hums along at the 40 and below frequencies and really provides a rich and subtle foundation for the rest of the system. From a durability and longevity point of view, I've had my DefTechs for 13 years now. Never a problem, and I just love them. The upgrade was money very well spent. DefTech is known for delivering well priced speakers at each price point. These speakers (really the entry point in the bi-polar setup) were not only a great price, but are just amazing speakers, and if history is a guide will last a long, long time. I would absolutely make the same decision again.
