Product Description

One of the new stars of the Artist Series remake, the ATM450 cardioid condenser offers an innovative side-address stick design for endless placement options and minimal obstructions. The microphone is equipped with an integral 80 Hz hi-pass filter that provides easy switching from a flat frequency response to a low-end roll-off. The ATM450 also features a switchable 10 dB pad that lowers the microphone's sensitivity, providing higher SPL capability for flexible use with a wide range of performers and system configurations. The microphone's extended flat frequency response makes it ideal for high SPLs as well as for live and amplified acoustic instruments. Includes a professional isolation clamp to provide secure mounting, versatile positioning and effective dampening of unwanted mechanical noise.

5Amazingly Versatile Mic and Cheap!
By Tim Donderevo
I bought one of these mics for personal use (home studio) after working with one at a professional recording studio (post production). Its tiny, but incredibly great sounding! I honestly don't think there's a better mic for the money. This mic sounds great on vocals and acoustic instruments, I've recorded music for national TV commercials (acoustic guitar, ukulele, vocals) and they sound every bit as good as the tube-mics at the studio. I compared the ATM450 against a Neumann TLM103 (standard multi-purpose studio mic - $1000+) and a Sennheiser MKH416 ($1000 Shotgun Mic often used in studio for voice-over because of it's excellent mid-range cut!) The ATM450 stood up incredibly well. In fact it shares a lot of tonal characteristics with the 103 despite it's tiny diaphragm. For voice-tracking, singing, and acoustic instruments it sounds pretty damn close to a pricey tube-mic. For a 1/4 of the cost of a Neumann, this mic is a steal! The side-address design makes the mic surprisingly useful for angling on instruments. The stand-mount-adapter-thing offers no shock-absorption, but the mic is so tiny and light, its unlikely to move around or cause any noise unless you kick the stand. One tiny design flaw; the mic is completely cylindrical and can slip straight through the stand-mount-adapter-thing if you're not holding on to it!An absolutely brilliant mic for musicians, podcasters or voice-over artists. I got mine amazingly cheap from an Amazon sale! Thanks Amazon!

5Great on acoustic guitar
By Daniel C Sigg
I have been using this microphone primarily for recording acoustic guitar in my home studio. The microphone sounds great, and holds up well to my AT4050 (large condenser studio workhorse), perhaps with a little less clarity and low end response. For $249 this microphone is a steal. The ATM450 appears to be not as well known and I have not seen it recommended much for acoustic guitar as some of the more commonly known small diaphragm condenser mics such as the Sure SM81, Rode NT5 etc. The ATM450 deserves all the credit as a great mic in the below $500 price category in my opinion, at least for acoustic guitar. I have also used it for stereo recording (unmatched, small & large condenser), with great results.I purchased this microphone after doing quite a bit of research on microphones for recording acoustic, and while this is ultimately a personal choice, you will not be disappointed.PS: I have been using the ATM450 with a really nice preamp (RNP).
