My house has a number of Cadet in-wall heaters that would keep the place warm but were annoying in the noise they made. I wanted something quieter and that also provided more even heating. I went with an oil-filled plug-in radiator and replaced one of the Cadet's with this Ouellet hybrid heater in the living room. It has been absolutely great. Even though this is mostly marketed as a bathroom heater, it has worked really well in the living room. The stand-alone oil-filled radiator does much of the work, and the Ouellet picks up the slack. The Ouellet has a forced-air mode which usually only runs when the room is cold and initially heating up. The rest of the time it runs in the convection mode, completely silent and producing quite a bit of heat output as needed. There are 4 levels of heat output and the entire system is controlled by an excellent built-in thermostat that keeps the room at whatever temperature is set. The heat output will automatically vary from 0, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 watts depending on the difference between the air temperature and the temperature the thermostat is set at. At 1500 and 2000 watt output, the fan will run. So, the amount of heat output is automatically controlled. You don't notice the room getting hot then cooling off; the temperature stays very even. I noticed a huge improvement in room temperature control once I installed the Ouellet. The temperature in the living room is very constant and, in combination with the oil-filled radiator, I have silent heating (after initial heating when the fan runs.)The heater can be installed in-wall, like the Cadet, or can be mounted on the surface of the wall, as mine is. If mounted on the wall, it extends about 4 inches out, which works fine for me. An optional sleave is available when mounting the unit on the wall, which might be nice for asthetics. In summary, I am completely pleased with the high quality and performance of this unit. Ouellet also makes other wall-mount convection-only heaters specifically desgned for use in quiet environments. Based on the quality and performance of this unit, I would consider the other offerings too. This unit is a bit spendy, to say the least, but if you can spring for it, it's worth it.My only wish is that the unit included a timer system to automatically turn the unit on and off or change the thermostat temperature at specified times.
