By Linda Fox
I suffered a high ankle sprain, which is when the ligament that holds the two lower leg bones together tears. Unlike other ankle sprains, this one requires casting to heal, because with each step, the bones separate, preventing the ligament from healing. I walked in pain for 6 weeks, thinking it was a normal ankle sprain. When it was apparent something else was wrong, my doctor ordered an MRI and found the problem. He put me in this cast, and for the first time in 6 weeks, I can walk without pain. It was like a miracle. The cast has air bladders on both sides, which you inflate with the included little hand pump. You can choose how tightly you want your leg held together, based on how much air you pump in. When you sit down, just let some air out if it's squeezing too much. When you get up, add some more air, and you can walk without pain. Awesome cast. This Aircast was $275 from him. Amazon is a much better deal, if your insurance doesn't cover it.

I broke my fibia and tibula in 3 places, ended up with 15 screws and a plate to repair it. After a cast for 8 weeks, I had to wear this boot for 6 additional weeks while going through physical therapy. The boot is exactly as the other two reviews prior to mine describe. The only problem I had with it is the sole is completely flat. There is absolutely no arch support whatsoever. I ended up bying an arch support from the local drug store and used that to remedy this problem. I think they should have kept that in mind for such an expensive boot. Three months after getting out of this boot, I had another surgery yesterday to remove the hardware in my leg and I will have to wear this boot again once the two week cast is removed. I am on Amazon now to buy replacement boot socks because after 6 weeks of wearing the two that came with the boot every day for 6 weeks inside of this closed contraption, they are worn, tattered, stained, and I don't want to use them again. I can't seem to find replacements though..but I'll keep looking.

I completely ruptured my right achilles tendon about 3 cm above my heel. It was surgically repaired three days after the injury and I was fitted with a plaster 3/4 cast (to allow for swelling). Two weeks later, I was fitted with an Aircast FP Walker pneumatic boot. It is a walking boot and has three inflatable chambers (both sides and front) to allow for a perfect fit. It is easy to inflate and deflate the chambers for a comfortable fit. The construction materials, design and weight are excellent for immobilizing the foot, ankle and calf areas. It prevents planar flexion which could interfere with the recovery of the torn achilles tendon. It is also very easy to fit, put on and take off. As expected it is like walking around in a ski boot. I am exactly one month post operation and I can walk short distances without any pain. My orthopedic surgeon (who is a renown sports knee, ankle and foot surgeon) prescribed this boot specifically. Since I live in New England I noticed that this was the exact boot prescribed for Tom Brady, our Super Bowl MVP quarterback.
