This worked well for an ill family member. You remove the existing toilet seat, attach this spacer seat with the supplied stainless steel hardware, then bolt the old seat right back on top. We bolted a Toto S300 washlet on top rather than a regular seat to make managing personal hygiene easier. There were no problems with sturdiness or stability.
