I love this lamp. I use it in a fancy apartment. It is a snap to assemble. Light is gentle and diffuse, spreading over a wide area. Use it to light and define a conversation or dining area.It is less suitable as a reading lamp since there is no reflector; and the shade does not direct the light downward. The base could be a little heavier, but it is easy to glue a ceramic tile under the base to make it tip-free. The three shelves below the lamp are ideal for display of small art objects or plants.P.S. July 16, 2011This classic design remains one of my favorite purchases. I have it in a computer nook at the end of a long corridor in a large, fancy apartment. With a nine-watt fluorescent, I leave it on 24x7. There is enough light to answer the phone, check my email, or grab a snack from the adjoining kitchen. To me it is an art object!

Big bang for $59.00 but I put in an energy saving bulb (the equivlent of the 120w recommended bulb)and at best it is mood lighting, meaning the shade just glows and gives off minimal light.

Floor lamps are usually very expensive. I love this lamp it adds so much character to a room and it was not expensive at all. I love this item.
