The Seagull story wouldn't be complete without mentioning La Patrie. La Patrie is a small village in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. This is where the first Seagulls were made in the early eighties. Today, La Patrie has a population of about 475 and about half of these people are guitar builders. These folks take a great deal of pride in the guitars they build.Customer Reviews

By DJ
I've been playing guitar for over 22 years now. I've owned Fender telecasters and stratocasters made in the USA and Japan, a midrange Martin acoustic, a vintage Epiphone acoustic, several Gibson Hollowbodies and a Les Paul as well as other guitars and instruments. This is one of the finest instruments I think I have ever played. Sure you can pick up an instrument at many times the price and find something that sounds as good and perhaps better for your taste. But this instrument just sounds good at any price. If you buy this you can't go wrong, it can be the last acoustic you have to buy as you will not outgrow it. Of course there are other sounds to be had, parlor guitars simply sound different and you may want that sound. But what I like about this guitar is its voice 'speaks' with authority, very clearly and cleanly, it is very responsive, and it does not have a flabby bass as many dreadnought guitars have. The guitar is actually much more beautiful than the photo would lead you to believe, at least the two that were in the shop I was at were.I compared this with the mini-jumbo seagull in the entourage range as well as an S6 Original. They were both beautiful guitars as well, all professional sounding, all beautifully made. The mini-jumbo had more midrange and the S6 Original had more bass. In general the Entourage guitars seemed to be brighter sounding. The S6 Original was beautiful sounding, more "mellow" but it also didn't 'speak' as responsively when played. I felt like I had to "work" to get the sound out of it a little more which may be preferable to some. The S6 also sounded more "generic" if you will. This guitar sounded a little more 'special to my ears. With this instrument the notes just jumped out of it and it was bright sounding without being harsh at all but still had a nice bass. This guitar was sort of between the mid-range brightness of the mini-jumbo and the mellowness of the S6 as this had more bass than the mini-jumbo but was brighter than the S6. The guitar I played most of the time at the shop ended up having shipping damage on it so we had to get another from the back and it sounded almost if not identical to the one I had played on, so the quality control and consistent good sound seems to be found from instrument to instrument. As the title of my review says, if you buy this instrument it will likely last you a lifetime and you will never grow out of it. You may decide to add some other "colors" to your acoustic palate, but you will never NEED to upgrade because of poor sound or outgrow this instrument and with its solid top construction it will likely only get better with age.

By John Doe
Since I base many of my purchases of reviews I decided I need to also participate to the process. FYI I purchased the Seagull Entourage CW with pickup but it sounds almost identical to the this guitar.I have had this guitar for two months, and I am extremely happy. For the price this guitar is a steal. I compared this guitar with the Taylor 710 and Martin DXME, and many other brands/models. In my opinion the Seagull is a better sounding and quality guitar - although the Taylor 710 was pretty good. After playing 40 or so guitars at the store, the Seagull was the best acoustic guitar under $1000. The first guitar that began to sound better than the Entourage was the Martin D-16GT - at this price point you will start to find better sounding guitars than the Entourage. To me this shows the craftsmanship, quality and care that are put into the Seagulls. The Entourage without the pickup or cutway plays just as good for around $300 which is something to consider. The Entourage also stays in tune for a rather long time. I have heard in some other forums people gripping about the Seagull not staying in tune but I suspect they are not properly humidifying their guitar causing the wood to constantly expand and contract. Please make sure to humidify your guitar it will save you money and keep your guitar sounding good for many years to come. For those of you that are curious, the Seagull S6 Original is made from the exact same wood as the Entourage series. This can be verified by going to Seagulls website. The interesting thing is the Original sounds considerably different than the Entourage. The only spec. difference is the nut width which must be the reason for the sound difference. And yes I am aware that no two guitars even of the same model and company sound alike. After playing several different Entourages and Originals they still have an overall difference in sound. I found the Entourage emphasized more of the mid and high range chords whereas the Original didn't. The Original sounded great but I think it might be better suited for folk music and/or finger picking. I really love this guitar and I would recommend it to anyone. I bought the TKL 8515 guitar case for the Entourage and it fits pretty well. The Gator dreadnought case does not fit this guitar, despite Gator's website stating that it does. I would always recommend playing a guitar first before buying it. What sounds good to my ear might not necessarily be appealing to you. However, some people don't have that luxury. With that said, I am fairly confident that you won't be disappointed with this guitar. Hope that helps.

Played this and many other more famous brands. To my ears this guitar has a better tone than guitars at three times the price. Don't hesitate to get this. The finish is really nice as well.
