EZX Twisted features the skills of Michael Blair, the drum and percussion genius behind Tom Waits "Rain Dogs" and "Franks Wild Years" albums, as well Elvis Costello's "Spike" and Lou Reed's "Magic and Loss," among others. Throwing traditional kits and percussive style out the window, Blair is a one-of-a-kind rhythm magician. This collection features off-the-beaten path type sounds mixed in with some quality, more orthodox hits. In other words, you can mix the crisp sound of a Gretsch 1987 maple kick drum with the plink of a hubcap or drawer turned into snares. The question you need to ask yourself before purchasing this product is "how bad do I want to purchase a $79 collection of sound effects made from stuff I can find in a junkyard?"Let's face it. The majority of the "drums" in this collection are derived from items you can find in the trash. Carboard boxes. Trash can lids. Bundt cake pans. Sauce pots. But for what it is, it's definitely something to try out if you're looking for more experimental drum sounds with a MUCH harsher edge. Consider this a convenient collection of sound effects you'd hear in a Tom Waits or Einstürzende Neubauten record that you don't have to risk going deaf to create yourself. The sounds you get here can indeed come in handy, but only on an occasional basis if you're on the more mainstream end of the music spectrum. If you're looking for a more aggressive percussion sound that you can't find in the other EZX expansions, this should help greatly.

Twisted Kit, to me, is a wonderful idea. Something different and new from the standard Toontrack libraries. You get a wide variety of junky sounds that are well recorded and stand out in many mixes. Unlike most of my Toontrack reviews, it's honestly hard to compare and contrast these sounds in a traditional sense. I think the sounds are great for brainstorming, versatile, but seldom traditional. For me, this kit is terrific if you just want a weird and different sound without going anywhere near anything electronic. While the midi library doesn't have the same versatility, organization, and cross-library compatibility as other SDX and EZXs, it works well with this library. Other libraries work well with it, even if they don't always take full advantage of the kit. I'd recommend this library, especially for someone who wants something different.

If your drum sounds are a little bland, this kit will spruce things up. It turns everyday items(and some that are not so every day) into percussion instruments to wake up your ears and give them some joy.
