Red Line 30304 Racing Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) - 1 Quart, (Pack of 12) Product Description:
- Provides five-times better film strength when compared to petroleum ATFs
- Provides a quicker shifting in cold weather as well as a smooth and consistent shifts for extended drain intervals.
- Reduces gear and clutch wear considerably
Product Description
Red Line's Racing Automatic Transmission Fluid is designed for use in racing automatic transmissions which need the positive shift of a Type-F automatic transmission fluid, Racing ATF contains no slipperiness additives, producing faster shifts and quicker lock-up, and can reduce elapsed time in drag racing. A higher viscosity compared to conventional Type-F transmission fluids provides higher torque converter efficiency at higher temperatures and the enhanced extreme-pressure protection provides five-times better film strength when compared to petroleum ATFs, reducing gear and clutch wear considerably. This product can also be used in manual transmissions which require ATFs, providing better gear wear and better shiftability, but Red Line MTL® will provide even better wear protection and shift action. Red Line Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluids are designed to provide excellent low-temperature shiftability and improved thermal stability. The products identified as Synthetic ATF, Synthetic D4 ATF, and Synthetic C+ ATF have better thermal stability and lower volatility characteristics than a petroleum ATF and provides a much lower viscosity at lower temperatures, providing much quicker shifting in cold weather. The balanced frictional characteristics provides smooth and consistent shifts for extended drain intervals. The superior stability compared to petroleum ATFs allows high-temperature operation without varnishing valves and clutches which leads to transmission failure.

By thegoodshot
Greatly improved the transmission shift feel in a 2004 Acura TL with a 3x2 drain/fill and 3rd & 4th gear pressure switch replacement at 120k miles. I did not have 1qt of D4 fluid on hand to complete the final drain/fill and maintain recommended ratio of Type-F to FM fluid. The car is new to me and shortly after purchase I became irritated by the low-gear transmission lag and shift operation. The vehicle also had an annoying "double-bump" when shifting from Park to Drive. These issues are virtually eliminated after doing this service. Thanks to the wealth of information on Acurazine forums and the members there. The only gripe I have is cost, however this is a good product that is not worth the time nickel & diming over.

This transmission fluid works well on Honda/Acura automatic transmissions. I use this on my Acura TL-S 2003 automatic transmission. If you are not familiar with Acura TL/CL transmissions, they are very fragile and subject to an engineering defect where oil passages get clogged up inside the transmission and do not allow for proper cooling. High heat=mechanical failure. This transmission fluid doesn't remedy the flaw but it helps by reducing temperatures because the clutches inside lock up quicker and do not slip as much due to less Friction modifiers inside the fluid. Less friction=less heat.Just a reminder, Acura TL transmissions hold I believe ~8qt fluid and you can only change out ~3qt at a time. So when you do a drain and refill with redline racing atf, you only get ~40% Racing ATF. There are threads on acurazine.com that show that ~68% is the optimal ratio of racing fluid to whatever old fluid you have, that's about 2 drain and refills on an Acura TL-S 2003 transmission. Having too much racing ATF may not allow for the clutches to disengage correctly. My vehicle has been running a ~68% of redline racing atf for about 13,000 miles, starting at 80,000 miles. I do 80% city miles, stop and go. The old fluid still left is Honda Z-1. The car is running great and one thing about synthetic transmission fluid is that it lasts a long time. I probably wont change the transmission fluid for another 40-50,000 miles.I will update this review in a year or so, it just takes me a while to log miles as I do not do much highway driving anymore.

This is one excellent ATF! I bought this Racing ATF + the Lightweight Racing ATF (not from amazon tho but next time i will) for my 2004 Honda Odyssey which has the dreaded P0740 CEL. at the time i did the purchase, my tranny was slipping once in a while to and from 3rd gear. it would Rev up to 4k rpm or so and would not shift then would catch. this went on for a few weeks. We finally took some action and had Mechanic did a Tranny flush using Honda ATF Z1, Fresh ATF made it a little better but it still would throw a CEL and slip. I researched and found 2 sites that helped me. Odyclub and acurazine. Both sites helped me know more about the problem and actuall root caused of the issue and the problem is the clogging of solenoids, lack of cooling and the use of the OEM ATF (Z1).I then did my own 3x3 flush (thats 3Qts for 3 flushes each) with a 50/50 mix of the above and the slipping and CEL went away for another 9k+ miles. Why Racing ATF? because it doesnt have any friction modifiers. it helps lessen the wear on the clutches inside the tranny and make it last longer and actually perform better. also, since its synthetic, it has higher tolerances from the heat. I've tried it and it worked for me. This is one excellent ATF!Since the Honda and the Acura share similar Transmissions and also similar issues. it can be used to benefit both.
