i had three criteria that this holster met. first, i am trying to reasonably conceal a full size m&p, so i wanted one that had a pretty steep cant. second, i needed a lefty model to get my pistol out from under my rifle and save a bit of wear on both. third, it had to cost less than the hospital bill from my first child. this holster fit all three best. i pondered on this one vs the blackhawk check six, but my usual websites' all had a terrible problem with sizes on the check six, so i went with galco, and have not been disappointed. as per usual with a leather holster, i put a plastic bag around my pistol, forced it in, and left it for a day. now it slips in and out with minimal fuss, and it has good retention. i am also a fan of the thumb snap. not able to trust the retaining screw only models. if i had to come up with good contructive critisizm, it would be to question why no one offers a full coverage holster...i.e., why are they all open on the barrel end. but that seems pretty much a universal convention. in summary, this holster tilts your weapon enough to hide a long grip and keeps things nice and flat on your back, even if your back is no longer nice and flat. and it is secure enough to wear on the atv without worrying about it being there 20 miles later.

I purchased my Galco Cop 3 Slot Holster for my M&P 40. Great quality cow hide holster. Although you can conceal carry with this holster it does leave a large imprint.(especially with a full-size firearm.) Retention snap is perfect.If needed you can use my way simple process to break-in a leather holsters.(no oil needed)1. Clear the firearm and remove the magazine2. Take 2 Ziploc bags and place them over the firearm3. Holding your thumb firmly pressed against the rear of the slide, push firearm into holster.4. Repeat step 3. (20) times.5. Leave firearm in Ziploc and holster overnight6. Remove from Ziploc's, place firearm in and out of holster several times.7. If/when needed adjust tension screw adjustment near the trigger guard for maximum firearm retention
