I've been a vegan for 16 years and have never been terribly crazy about the dress shoes selections for men. Payless (State Street) have been my go-to shoes, but they show wear so fast, they're toast in months. Then there are the crappy-looking shoes one finds at places like Moo Shoes, Pangea, Vegetarian shoes, etc. It's hit or miss, but one thing is a common theme among vegan men's dress shoes, they all look like Chinese made junk.Then there are these things. I would NEVER buy a pair of shoes for $300, even if I could afford it, but that's just me. I got these as a gift. They're impressively made and the pleather used is unlike anything I've seen before. Indeed, these are HAND-MADE in ITALY. And yes, it DOES make a difference.So, what's not to like? Well, I'm not exactly a metro-sexual, and I have always worn my hiking boots, sneakers or other casual shoes to work, but I needed a pair or two of really nice-looking dress shoes. These shoes make me feel a bit on the feminine side. For starters, the toe box is elongated in the Italian style, so that the tip of the shoe is literally 2 1/2 to 3 inches longer than it needs to be. Now, I am a 42 in Euro sizing (9 US), and that's what I got. And they fit, well. But,you look down and you think "Wicked Witch of the West", because the toes look like they should be sticking out from under a house.If this is what you are looking for, you'll want to make sweet love to these shoes, because they are REALLY nice. The equivalent in a leather version would be much cheaper, but easily $150-200.
