Just bought this pedal - still adjusting / tweaking! WOW!!!! Lightning fast...smooth...built like a tank...attaches with a lever you can access while sitting. Excellent engineering - each part screams quality. Feels like it should cost 2x what is does!I have used or owned: Tama Iron Cobra - also excellent - overall rating (B) Pearl Eliminator - feels cheaply made but works very well. Interchangeable cams a plus. Overall rating (B). Classic Ludwig Speed King - my former all time favorite. Always performed well but squeaked!!! Build quality OK. Overall rating (B+) Gibraltar Intruder Direct Drive is simply the best bang for the buck IMHO. Overall rating (A)

I have had this pedal for a few months now. I am have concluded that it may be the best I have ever played or owned.It's the feel, the smoothness, the speed, the power. In a 'heel down' position you can achieve a great deal of speed and power. "Heel up" and both are simply enhanced. I recently checked out one of the $300 new pedals (different company) at a music store.....frankly I could tell little difference, and I have a sensitive foot (even the designs are similar). You can spend a lot more and, perhaps, get less (less $ in your pocket for sure). I own/have played various pedals: Iron Cobra , Intruder II, Camco , Yamaha, Speed King, the old Rogers, DW. I got the 'Direct Drive' (vs. strap or chain). The $300 one has direct drive too. When my double strokes and 'Bonham triplets' were coming more easily - I knew I was onto something. The pedal has many features. I have adjusted how far the beater goes back and the spring tension, and the pedal angle (nice feature). The tension screw gives you more fine tuning than some other pedals that twist like a quarter turn at a time. I use a 'loose' tension and the pedal does not 'flop'. As with any pedal, double check your seat height as this will influence how any pedal feels and works for you. To me, the design of the pedal just looks so 'cool.' It even comes with a well designed bag (tools on the pedal) to protect it. Don't let the 'name' (Gilbraltar makes great stuff) or the 'price' scare you (as in, "You can't get a decent pedal for That price!!). You can go with many "Names" and brag about how much your pedal 'cost', but performance wise......I believe you will be hard pressed to find a pedal better than this Gilbraltar. I never expected to be thinking/writing this when I ordered it....sure happy I did! Heck, I almost cancelled the order thinking what could be better than what I had used before? I found out.
