This is an accurate, solid and dependable compass. I've used this many times in cruising the carribean. The red backlight is great at night and it always give an accurate reading. Don't rely on a $40 compass if you're going offshore. A good compass is critical. We had our power go out killing the GPS, when the batteries on the handheld died this compass got us home.

I purchased the compass and adapter to replace the pedestal compass on my S2 9.2a. Adaption was relatively easy and it was spot on with the other compass on board as well as the hand held. It was a bit smaller than the stock compass that I replaced, but with the adapter, gaskets and some sealant it looks and works fine

I have a 1986 Sea Ray Sundancer and one day last summer, I noticed that all of the fluid within the dashmounted compass had leaked out. After checking with the company who made the original compass, I found out that they no longer make the original unit and they had no older ones or rebuilts available. This unit replaces the old one and even though it's slightly smaller than the original, an adaptor ring (which the same company sells) alleviated any problems. It's a nice replacement to the old compass and works perfectly.
