I got this scope for travel and to carry with me all the time and it is amazing for the price! At 30x, its sharpness, color and contrast are comparable with scopes much (much!!!) higher in cost. Clarity and sharpness is quite good through 60x, and it's still usable for bird identification at 90x. As is the case with all zoom optics, contrast and brightness drop off the more you zoom (and if it's hot or you're looking over water, there is some shimmer at higher magnifications - again normal), but I found the levels more than acceptable. Color fringing is minimal and comparable to non-ED name brand scopes at nearly 10 times the cost!On its first use, I scanned the ocean visually and saw nothing but empty water. With my 10x40 Zeiss binoculars, I located a raft of very distant ducks, which I could only ID as "ducks" by their shape, without any clue as to species. With this scope at 90x, I was able to positively identify Black Scoters, Redheads and scaup. I have only had it a month, but have already gotten a tremendous amount of enjoyment using it for birding - from watching Wood Ducks and feeder birds from inside my living room to enjoying close-up views of ducks and swans that are way too skittish to get anywhere near out on the marsh. I could count the feathers on a tree full of Cedar Waxwings in afternoon light yesterday. I couldn't be happier with it.The swivel collar makes it comfortable to use from a seated position. The built-in front-element cap is handy, the slide in-out sun shade is a great idea (probably one reason the color fringing isn't bad) and the carrying case makes it easily portable. Its weight is very manageable, and the eye relief is not so overly long that you have to hunt for the image (I do not wear glasses). The focusing knob is very smooth and does not jiggle the scope like some barrel focusing arrangements do.It has totally replaced my old Celestron C5. My birding friend says she likes it better than another friend's $2600.00 Swarovski, but I'm not going to go quite _that_ far. However, dollars to performance, it shines. How can you compare $140.00 to $2600.00 anyway?Only one minor (too minor to remove a star) nitpick - get a more stable tripod than the included one. You'll enjoy the scope more and still come out way ahead on the price.

Seems high quality and it is to easy set-up. I checked out the local sports store spotting scopes and the prices were about 4 x for a GOOD brand 60X and this gathers more light at 90mm and up to 90x, has larger optics. This scope is very stable, the great tripod is sturdy (even a handle on the tripod) and it and scope are simple to adjust. Easy to position and to rotate scope in all directions. Lifetime warrantee, nice case (no aluminum case), very quick to assemble and start working with. Highly recommend.Con: Minor. The eyepiece cover falls of easily and the rubber rim around the eyepiece is slightly deformed.I maintain this was a good purchase and 5 star rated.

I was afraid that it would be less well constructed but that is not the case. I understand it is not top of the line but for the once or twice a year that we will use it, I expect it to last many years.
