This beauty is voiced by a pair of high-output Alnico Classic Humbuckers, aided by Gold Grover tuners, with the new Epiphone LockTone locking Tune-o-matic bridge and Stop-bar tailpiece that pours out even more rich sustained tone.
Now, Epiphone brings a new twist to this rock guitar legend and icon with the new LP Ultra. Amazing!

To being with, this is my first major guitar I've ever bought. My first Les Paul, especially. Unlike most of them, this guitar is very light, which is great. When at first glance, you would think it would weigh 20 pounds, but it's light as a feather. Now, it sounds great, too. I played it on my Peavey Vypyr 15; not the best amp, but it sounds great. Since the amp can't project the best quality, you can't really hear the pickups "scream." I played it at guitar center on a 15W Line 6 and it sounded amazing! Assuming you play it on the right amp, it will sound amazing.Also, I found it there for $399; even though it's listed on here for anywhere from $749-$1400. If you find one this cheap, get it quick! Now, this guitar is absolutely beautiful. Everything about the finish is great. It stays in tune great as well. There is a pick guard. At first, it bothered me; because, in my opinion, a Les Paul is not meant to have a pick guard. But it really works. Because everything looks great.To sum it all up, you can't even go wrong. It's a truly amazing guitar that is flawless. Great pickups, finish, body, and tuners; the works. Just make sure that you get a great amp, or else you may not get the best sound. I played it on a Line 6 Spider IV 15W, and I got the perfect hard rock sound. So yeah, just so long as you get the right amp, you get the best sound. I recommend this to everyone.

Send in that warranty ASAP!

I bought this for my husband. I don't play guitar so can't comment on that aspect, but he loves it. BE CAREFUL: You must send in the warranty card or register online 15 days after receiving the product. I think that is an absurdly short window of time. Also: Several strings were buzzing so we had to pay $95 for a professional set-up. Yeah, we could have sent it back for service, but what a hassle on an item this size. The list Amazon price is wildly inflated -- don't pay over $599 for this guitar.

A Tone That Cannot Be Duplicated On Any Les Paul

I am a long time player (40 years pro)and a Les Paul fan. To start with Epiphone Les Paul's are the best bargain in the guitar world. They are well built and sound great. I have a black 2005 Epiphone Les Paul Standard and it gets used a great deal live (At least twice a week on jobs. I have owned two Gibson Les Paul's in my life; a 1968 Gold Top and a 1972 Sunburst). Both are very nice. The Epiphone Les Paul's I own have a sound just as good in fact my black Standard has better sustain than my 1968 Gold Top ever had.All that being said I watched some video reviews of the Epiphone Les Paul Ultra 2 on YouTube and was quite impressed. I kept looking on Ebay for a used one and finally found one that was actually brand new (plastic covering on the pick guard and pick ups still in place)and I got it at a great price ($330.00 including shipping). The guitar arrived in mint condition. It is a Cherryburst finish with a "quilted" top. The finish and appearance is beautiful. I changed the strings (I use Ernie Ball 10 gauge)and did a complete set up (though it was fairly good to start with). The weight of the guitar is significantly lighter that a normal Les Paul due to the chambered body. I wouldn't say that it is light but it is lighter than a Les Paul standard. The controls all feel solid (once in awhile the three way switch is a little touchy but I will be replacing it). The tuning gears are Grover and the guitar stays in tune nicely even with some extreme bends.What about the sound? It's hard to make comparrisons because it is so unique. Comparing it to both of the Gibson and Epiphone Les Paul guitars I already own I would say it comes very close in tone and sustain. I notice slightly less sustain but that's being really picky because the tone, feel and overall sound is still very "Les Paul". The real bonus (and my reason for buying the Ultra 2) is the Nanomag Acoustic pickup. The pickup is mounted on the end of the neck and looks like it is just the end of the fretboard. Unless you look for it you won't even see it. The main controls for the Nanomag are on the back of the guitar (treble, bass and gain)with the main volume control on the front of the guitar that usually is the tone knob for the bridge pickup. The rear mini controls are positioned (recessed) so it is highly unlikely that you will accidentally move them. The sound of the Nanomag by itself is very acoustic like. You may ask does it sound 100% like a real high end acoustic guitar? No, but it sounds very good and the convenience of not having to change guitars from song to song (or during a song) to get an acoustic tone is great. The real difference comes into play when you mix the Nanomag with the humbuckers. You get sounds that no other guitar can match. I can't describe the various sounds that you can achieve because there are so many variables but let me say that they are extremely useful and unlike anything I have heard come out of one single guitar before. I wonder if Gibson is using Epiphone to test market this idea before putting it into a Gibson Les Paul.If you just looking for a Les Paul sound, this guitar will give it to you. Big, fat and lots of sustain. If you want a decent and very useable acoustic sound without having to change guitars, this will do it quite well. If you want to explore a whole new world of sounds, this guitar will really get you going. I love this guitar. (Epiphone stopped making the Ultra 2 and is now making the Ultra 3. The sounds are the same with the same pickup configuration but there are two updates. The Ultra 3 has a built in tuner which also shows which pickups you are using and the tone knob on the Ultra 3 also acts as a push button switch to activate the various pickups. This makes switching the Nanomag on and off without changing the Nanomag's volume much easier. If those new features and not important to you (not a big deal to me), save your money and buy an Ultra 2. If you look around (Amazon, Ebay etc,) there are many still available brand new or hardly used.)
